Habeas Corpus
That so few people collectively speaking were outraged by loss of so fundamental a right must be rather comforting to those who want for a Republic where those best qualified to make choices that effect everyone can govern free of civil hindrance. Representative democracy was intended by the founders to survive even the care of devils provided the electorate shouldered its share of responsibility.
